Black feelings deep in the heart of me Black ashes swallowed, they're choking me Black feathers I throw in the fire for you I'm not above a little voodoo Black shadows cast on our history Black humour, a sign of my sanity Black memoirs, a season in hell for you I shudder to think what I did for you Don't you know just who I am? I'm no ordinary man Black candles flicker in hope for me Black curtains fall on this tragedy My black eyes burning a hole in you My God I saw into the heart of you Black mirror reflects what's become of me Black ravens, portents of my sanity Black roses, my rare and final gift for you My black heart still keeps a place for you You don't know what's slipped through your hands Perhaps one day you'll understand You know fuck all about the pain You better hope I don't explain You'll never realise the shame Now that it's all gone up in flames (Break) Thank you once again my love For turning everything to black My best wishes, worst intentions Your ever hating Jacques I left everything unread But as you know it came out black
3.
Set fire to the piano And play like you're insane Don't even think of stopping 'till your fingers feel the strain Keep hammering those keys And marking out the beat You play it so damn quickly you no longer feel the heat (Chorus:) 'Cos when your body crumbles And your mind just don't seem right And your woman done gone left you It's the only way to fight If you feed it gin and tears You'll just make the flames rise higher People gather round the all-consuming fire Everybody's queueing For the flaming pianist If he cannot use his fingers he'll just use his goddam fists The temperature is rising Do you think that it's the flames Or could it be the music that's attracting all the dames? (Chorus) (Instrumental Break) (Chorus)
4.
Bésame, bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche La última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte después Bésame, bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche La última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte después Quiero tenerte muy cerca Mirarme en tus ojos Verte junto a mi Piensa que tal ves mañana Yo ya estaré lejos Muy lejos de ti Bésame, bésame mucho Como si fuera esta noche La última vez Bésame, bésame mucho Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte después Que tengo miedo a perderte Perderte después
5.
There's evil leaking into my brain Like the gutter's overflowing with the rain And the cold has got its grip on my fingertips Like the cold white smile beneath your scarlet lips And I thank you for everything You've done for me tonight There's hemlock in this bottle we share Like peroxide that's fraying in your hair And the walls are getting closer as we speak Like conventions that we spit upon and cheat And I know you've done everything I've asked of you tonight And I know you don't care a thing For anything but cash tonight And I thank you for everything You've done for me tonight...
6.
There were rumours in Saint Cloud Monparnasse and Pompidou Chansons, Chansons d'Ivresse Whispers on the boulevard From Opéra to Saint Lazare Chansons, Chansons d'Ivresse (Chorus:) And after the deluge We're washed up again A season in hell With this drunken refrain From Pigalle to Père Lachaise In army surplus and Hermès Chansons, Chansons d'Ivresse There's weeping in Montmartre For the green fairy's savage heart Chansons, Chansons d'Ivresse (Chorus) (Blow out)
7.
Bring a drop of sweet sherry to my lips I'm a trifle unsteady I said, "Let's run away, live beyond our means Go pack your bags; I'm ready." (Chorus:) Let me walk you home I promise that I won't make any unwanted advances You know in heels like those you can't take any chances Resist their rakish charms I'll show you what romance is Simple pleasures make work for idle hands As hedonists, dear lady We could live as kings, libertines Let's emigrate, go crazy (Chorus) (Break) (Chorus)
8.
It's writ large across the sky All the words you said were lies All the promises you made All the plans we ever made All I'm left with are just sighs You said you'd always be with me I guess it's just a pack of lies You said you'd never desert me Now I sit on my own and I cry And I cry, cry, cry (He cries, cries, cries) I cry, cry, cry (And he doesn't know the reason why) It's writ large across the screen All the things you've ever seen All the books you never read All the thoughts inside your head All the words you didn't mean You said you'd always be with me I guess it's just a pack of lies You said you'd never desert me Now I sit on my own and I cry And I cry, cry, cry (He cries, cries, cries) I cry, cry, cry (And he doesn't know the reason why) It's writ large above your bed All the love we had is dead All those words as sharp as knives Wasted years of our lives All the times I've been misled You said my home was with you now But hey I walk a lonesome mile Wherever you go I will follow And there's nothing I can do but smile And I smile, smile, smile (He smiles, smiles, smiles) I smile, smile, smile Which I haven't done in quite a while (Break)
9.
Lascars 03:22
I saw you falling, falling through town VIPs were turning you down Come on baby – give me a frown It's got nothing to do with me I saw you sleeping, asleep on the train Swaying at the station in the rain It's got nothing to do with me (Chorus:) Doesn’t it bring you down? The lascars hanging around Oh what is it for? The sailors queueing outside your door You don’t come to Marseilles for fun You traded in your pension for a gun You laid to rest your never-born son It's got nothing to do with me (Chorus) (Break) Oh I was born, born to do harm A couple of Euros and a sackload of charm So here’s your chance to finish me ma’am It's got nothing to do with me You’re turning tricks for the lawyers tonight They all know how to fight for your rights But now they stay away from the light It's got nothing to do with you
10.
Champagne and caviar You can't remember who you are Long nights in winter time White nights in summer time Vodka and cigarettes I don't think you like me ... yet Your nose so aquiline Those glances saturnine (So did you have to do it? Did you have to say goodbye?) (Chorus:) I've had a ball What a shame to end it all Why did you tango into me? Was it just to end your ennui? Words like bullets gone astray Down at the Stray Dog Cabaret A person on their own No altruism shown Let's wait another year And see who turns up here (Will anyone turn up? Or was it just one of those things...?) (Chorus) We're frozen in the snow Where did our silence go? Old pictures solarise Opinions polarise We dance while buildings fall Try to forget it all Those wars will end one day To die we're not afraid (Chorus) We don't have to end it all... (Jazz guitar solo)

about

“The Dutch Angle” is The Drunken Gentlemen’s full length follow-up to the spaghetti western concept EP “Bring Me the Head of Jacques Miami”. Its nostalgic blend of chanson and klezmer inspired cinematic pop provides an antidote to the malaise of the modern age.

Half-crooned, louche baritone vocals are accompanied on this collection of bar-room laments and sleazy torch ballads by anything they, and their extended collective of musicians, could lay their hands on. These unpredictable sorts are always liable to create an ungodly racket when excited. This is no exception.
